Becoming Master Of All
It is amazing how God has made us all with different skills and aptitudes. One of my favorite things is to see people’s Godly gifts, skills and abilities and learn how they are working on mastering those crafts. Certain people are creative and artistic others are very logical and see in black and white. This wide scope gives the people on earth a wide range to help everyone God is calling us to.
After talking to many people of all different gifts there is one thing that is common between everyone and that is thinking we know the best way to do something. This constant fight of ego is something everyone faces and ties all the way back to Adam and Eve when they were deceived into thinking that God’s way wasn’t the best way and decided to deviate from God’s design. This led to sin entering the blood line and a problem ever since. This leads us to thinking that we need to become a master of all.
I was listening to an interview with a gentleman that was classified in the .01 percent of IQ in the world. He made a very wise comment in the interview. The thing he said was we can be led into a thought process as we become experts in something, it makes us think we know about all things. Take this for example, if you have a brain surgeon is that brain surgeon ever doing heart surgery? No, people specialize and that gives them the opportunity to master their speciality. This is what the gentleman was referring to in the interview. He was saying he could see all the things he didn’t know instead of only thinking of the things he did know.
Now it’s important to see that this idea of “mastery of all” is a tactic of torment because it’s a contradiction to God’s nature. The reality is wisdom is something that is imparted on us by God and to think we are experts in everything is ego blinding us. In Proverbs 2:6 King Solomon tells us “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;”
The heart of this scripture is to show us that wisdom and knowledge are given from God and it’s inaccurate to think we will gain what is not given by God. As we gain the wisdom and knowledge God gives we are now able to help who He calls.
With this wisdom our role is to specialize. Apostle Paul gives us a beautiful representation of this in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 when he says “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
We see God is involved in all of us and God has given us these gifts and our job is to lean into prayer with God to find what that gift is to prosper His kingdom.
The specialization and mastery of 1 skill allows you to be a rock of dependability for when God ushers people that need that gifting to you. There is a saying that goes “ a master of all is a master of none”. The mastery of one is true mastery and now you’re in a position where God can now send people to you and you’re able to provide the people with either a basic understanding they need or a deep level of understanding that comes from a master.
Mastery is being able to either explain the basics or deeper level knowledge in an effective, efficient and clear way. To do that it takes many hours of practice, learning, teaching and doing so puts you in a position to help anyone that needs guidance on that topic.
Don’t let this tactic of torment make you think you will master everything. Instead focus on your gifting and do not drift into other lanes. Conquer this tactic of torment by being in prayer, finding where God has placed a mastery for you and dedicating yourself to that topic through thick and thin. If everyone out there is trying to master all, none will be a master of one and this would lead to lack of depth where God has called us.
